Washington University in St. Louis - Sept. 2014

Welcome to Washington University, St. Louis!

College Hall is located in the South 40 - the part of campus where freshman/sophomores live. College Hall is one of Wash U's "Hogwarts" style dining halls. The banners represent the residential colleges on campus. Students are live in a residential college - they build community through fun activities and also compete against other residential colleges! Random note about residence halls (sorry no pics): they have tempurpedic beds! The students RAVE about them!

Part of South 40...looks like a mini village. Very classy!

Danforth University Center is the hub of campus life! Main dining hall is located here...in addition to the main center for student organizations, a "fun" room stocked with video games, pool table, etc.,  career services (20 full-time professionals ready to serve students in career advising). Lots of students hang out in Danforth (of course, it was 90+ degrees outside)!!

Main Quad area - lots of open space for students to hang out, play ultimate frisbee, lounge, study, etc.! Beautiful architecture and open space.

The room to the left is a very special landmark on campus: Holmes Lounge. This space was originally built to house the Queen's jewels that were on display during the 1904 Worlds Fair, located in...you guessed it...St. Louis! Entryway to Brookings Quad! This building and area was built specifically for the 1904 Worlds Fair! Brookings Quad hosts several special events, including Opening Convocation (at the start of each school year) and Commencement (graduation). Very special place on campus.

Looking out from Brookings Quad toward the city of St. Louis. Just a few minutes walking distance from Wash U.'s campus is Forest Park...one of the largest city parks in the country. Forest Park is actually 500 acres larger than Central Park in New York! There is 8 miles worth of running trails, a golf course, museums, St. Louis Zoo (ranked #2 after San Diego), a boat house with paddle boats, lots of shady trees, etc.! A must see in St. Louis. A great location for Wash U. students!
Just below is Francis Field...also a historic landmark, as it served as the site for the 1904 Olympics!!

Around the city of St. Louis...

A trip to St. Louis isn't complete without seeing two iconic landmarks...St. Louis Cardinals' Busch Stadium and the famous Arch!
